Allow students time to check Rocket 1 calculations
Review Sus-it-out and equation methods
These are great but don't give an intuitive feel
In the rocket lab, you shot the rocket in the air. What is the acceleration of the rocket at the top of its trajectory? Not really intuitive from other methods.
Bike and Bees
Visualize it
Graphs
Go over graphical method of solving equations.
Hand out problems solving strategy sheet
Give out RA 2.5, due Thursday.

Reviewed Sus-It-Out Method
Went over RA 2.2, 2.3
Collected CD 2.2
The sus-it-out method is the method students will use for Rocket 1 analysis. Hopefully we will do the Rocket 1 Lab tomorrow - weather permitting.
Asked if students wanted to do Quia review of topics or push ahead. Students chose to push ahead. Derived equations for Equation Method. Handed out worksheet for Linear Motion Problems. Asked students to try enough to be confident of their problem solving abilities, but especially do problems 17 and 18 on rockets.

Finished skills - including dealing with uncertainties
Showed how to deal with uncertainties for:
1. multiple measurements
2. adding and subtracting values
3. Max Min method and Method of Relative Uncertainties.
Handed out math problem worksheet
Students can get up to 5 points extra credit for these problems.

Skills needed for physics
Showed two-balloon experiment
Minimize surface area: A sphere is the shape that minimizes the surface area for a given volume.
Students calculated the volume and surface area for a cube of side length 1
Students calculated the volume, radius, and surface area for sphere of same volume.
Exercise in using a calculator.
Went over graphs - elements of a good graph
Handed out APS sheet for graph
Handling BIG and small numbers:
Scientific notation
Different units (like light year or AU)
Prefixes - STUDENTS MUST KNOW THE BASIC METRIC PREFIXES
Handed out APS sheet on BIG and small numbers
More pitfalls in using a calculator
Unit conversions
Went over unit conversion explanatory sheet
Students worked on unit conversion worksheet.
If they didn't finish, finish tomorrow for homework.

Start of New School Year!!
BULA!
Seating chart, student profile.
Went over my background.
Got textbooks
Students wrote name in books
Bring covered textbook tomorrow for 10 pts
Course Expectations - bring in signed form tomorrow for 5 pts
Parent Notification - bring one signed form tomorrow for 10 pts
Magic Jar demo
Students tried if they could float paperclip or penny. Paper clips worked, pennies did not.
Tomorrow must do classroom tour and show emergency meeting place.
